Last week, Zembla claimed that Bakkersland, the largest industrial bakery company in the Netherlands, had a problem with asbestos in the previous two years.
The company has admitted that asbestos had been released into its ovens, possibly contaminating shipments of bread destined for major grocery chains.
Bakkersland CEO Eugene Scholten told RTL Nieuws that the bread from Bakkersland has never been in direct contact with asbestos, used as insulation for the furnaces.
The figures released by IAS reveal that asbestos is very dangerous and can cause cancer. There are probably many more bakers who have suffered asbestos cancer, Nos reported.
