Second Chamber wants to blacklist fraudulent bankers

A motion to blacklist bankers caught committing fraud will likely find support across the board when it gets tabled in the Second Chamber. The motion, submitted by parliamentarians Eddy van Hijum (CDA) and Henk Nijboer (PvdA) on Thursday suggests that blacklisting fired corrupt bankers will prevent them from continuing their devious ways at other financial institutions. Van Hijum and Nijboer want their initiative to be rolled out internationally and call on Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem to leverage it. Their motion is expected to get the nod from the VVD, PvdA, CDA, SP and D66 factions in Parliament. Dijsselbloem had no problem with the appeal from the Chamber, but hinted that he is already lobbying for a “suitability test” that bankers European-wide will have to take. He said that as far as he is concerned the people that this applies to may be extended, so that it does not just apply to bank managers but also to employees who are authorized to take risky decisions. “In that regard an exchange of information about fraudulent workers may be useful,” said the Minister.
