Plasterk: don't mess with politicians' allowance

Minister Plasterk of Internal Affairs thinks that the unemployment allowance for politicians should not be decreased any further.Although the subject of an unemployment allowance for politicians is unpopular, Plasterk does not want to keep cutting corners, stated the Minister in an interview, that was published on the website of de Volkskrant Tuesday. Ronald Plasterk / Wikipedia Politicians have no employment protection; that is part of the nature of the job. If they were to disagree with something, you don't want them to stick to their job, because they have a mortgage to pay. Instead, you want them to draw conclusions and bear the consequences, but then they should be able to do so, according to Plasterk. The Labour Minister also believes that political parties rotate politicians too quickly. Politicians who serve a second term in the House, are considered old goats. Plasterk served three terms and stresses it's a profession by itself. It takes a few years to learn the ropes. He thinks seasoned people should be appreciated more. The Chamber discusses Plasterk's budget Wednesday and Thursday.
