Dutch Mobile E-Commerce Grows 67% in H1’13

Mobile e-commerce is rapidly growing in the Netherlands and it is expected to be the growth drive for the e-commerce sector in the coming years. A new study, conducted by Blauw Research for Thuiswinkel.org, reveals that mobile e-commerce in the Netherlands rose 67% year-on-year in the first half of 2013 to €550 million, reports Telecompaper. Mobile accounted for 11% of all online sales in the period. Researchers found that the use of mobile phone or tablet for buying online rose by 53% in the first half to 2.3 million. The consumers purchased around 12 million things, spending on average €239 each. Mobile Shopping / Flicker Most online transactions were made for buying clothing and shoes. Almost two-thirds of the purchases were over tablets, and over 80% were made from home. Mobile buyers most often use the iDeal payments platform to complete their purchases. The number of mobile consumers is expected to grow to around 3 million in the second half of the year in the Netherlands. For the full year, m-commerce sales are expected to reach €1.2 billion, or over 11% of all e-commerce sales, according to the study.
