CCTVs on Fishing Vessels

CCTVs and observers on fishing vessels, should prevent fish being illegally dumped. State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Sharon Dijksma , believes that better control is needed to prevent prohibited fish dumps at sea, reports the AD. Besides better controls of ships' logs, Dijksma also announces that she explicitly wants to see if auditors can sail along and if CCTVs can be used. The dumping of fish happens when the crew finds a school of fish that is of a better quality than the previously catch. The old catch is then thrown overboard and this is forbidden in the European Union. Fishermen dump less sellable catches at sea, because they have to meet quotas and want to bring only the best fish ashore.
