Dutch prosecution service staffer, partner held in drug investigation
A 31-year-old employee of the Public Prosecution Service was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of drug possession. Her 34-year-old partner was likewise detained, with both individuals facing allegations of involvement in the possession and distribution of illegal drugs, according to prosecutors.
Authorities detained the 31-year-old woman while searching a residence in The Hague. Sources told the AD that she had not been at work at the district prosecutor’s office for a while prior to her arrest.
The woman is employed at the The Hague district prosecutor’s office in a non-legal role and had no access to the Public Prosecution Service’s premises or internal systems. A spokesperson declined to specify the quantity of drugs involved. Both suspects are scheduled to appear before an examining magistrate in Zwolle on Friday.
The case is now being handled by the police’s National Operations and Interventions Unit, under the direction of the National Public Prosecution Office.
Dutch law allows for prison terms of up to 12 years for offenses involving hard drugs, with the exact sentence depending on the scale and seriousness of the crime. Civil servants found guilty of these offenses may be dismissed on the spot and barred from serving in public positions.
