Dense morning fog in northwest, sunny skies in east and south
Saturday morning brought widespread fog and low clouds to the northwestern Netherlands, while the east and southeast experienced sunshine and milder temperatures, the weather service Weeronline reported. Visibility in some areas was severely reduced early Saturday, prompting the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) to issue a yellow warning for dense fog, which has since been lifted.
The fog and low clouds are expected to lift in the late morning across most areas, though persistent gray skies may remain in the north and northwest. Under cloud cover, temperatures at the end of the morning were between 6 and 8 degrees, while sunny regions, such as Limburg, reached 13 to 14 degrees. Winds are generally light from the north.
By the afternoon, clearer skies will spread further south and west. Saharan dust remains present, making the sun appear hazy.
Regions such as Groningen, Friesland, around the IJsselmeer, and Noord-Holland may remain overcast, with temperatures between 7 and 11 degrees. In contrast, sunny areas of Noord-Brabant and Limburg could see highs of 16 to 18 degrees. Winds will shift slightly from north to northeast, generally remaining weak, though moderate at the coast.
Fog and mist are expected to return overnight, spreading southward and reducing visibility in many areas. Low temperatures will hover around 5 degrees.
Sunday and Monday are forecast to be mostly sunny and mild, with highs reaching 15 to 18 degrees in most areas. Only northern coastal regions may remain slightly cooler.
By Tuesday, a mix of clouds and sun is expected, with moderate southwest winds and temperatures ranging from 11 degrees in Den Helder to 16 degrees in Eindhoven and Maastricht. Localized showers are possible inland.
Later in the week, temperatures are expected to decline gradually, with highs generally between 10 and 15 degrees, occasional rain showers, and stronger southwest winds from Thursday onward.
