Eindhoven-area residents worried over ASML plans to bring 20,000 more workers
Residents in the Eindhoven area are expressing growing concerns over ASML’s plan to bring 20,000 new employees to the region, effectively doubling its local workforce.
The chipmaker plans to start construction in March on a new campus near Eindhoven Airport, with cleanrooms and offices built in phases. While the expansion promises economic growth, locals fear rising housing prices, strained healthcare, and worsening traffic.
A recent survey by Newcom for Omroep Brabant shows only 40 percent of residents now support the expansion, down from nearly half last year.
Two-thirds worry about housing affordability, 60 percent fear no homes will be available for themselves or their children, and nearly half are concerned about healthcare capacity. Traffic congestion worries have also grown, with 43 percent expecting conditions to worsen.
Residents say ASML should invest in the region alongside its growth. Eight in ten want the company to support the local community, four in ten want it to fund housing, and nearly two in ten say it should contribute to infrastructure improvements.
Challenges remain for the project, including land acquisition and potential delays from the nitrogen emissions crisis. Yet three-quarters of residents believe the expansion will proceed as planned.
