Amsterdam Dance Event hosts plastic-free rave to cut nightlife waste
A non-profit based in Amsterdam hosted a plastic-free rave during the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) on Thursday, October 23, as part of its efforts to reduce plastic waste in the music industry.
Bye Bye Plastic, founded by DJ and producer BLOND:ISH and sustainability expert Camille Guitteau, aims to eliminate single-use plastics from nightlife and cut 42 tons of plastic waste annually.
The organization began when BLOND:ISH banned plastic from her tour rider and has since grown into a global movement encouraging DJs, clubs, and festivals to adopt zero-waste practices.
The group’s Eco-Rider initiative allows DJs to demand plastic-free booths, while other projects include canal clean-ups and experiments with biodegradable bacteria-made vinyl records.
At the ADE event, held at Droppie Store, attendees danced to sets by Yulia Niko, Bákayan, Ferkoel, Might Delete Later, Niklas Becher, and Soudant. Guests earned entry by recycling their waste at any Droppie store using the Droppie app.
