Two arrested for Alkmaar man's disappearance; Missing a month

The police have arrested two men on suspicion of involvement in the disappearance of 25-year-old Tijn from Alkmaar. Tijn has been missing for a month.

Investigators now officially suspect foul play, the police said in a statement without providing more details. “We continue to search for Tijn,” the police said.

The suspects, aged 38 and 32, are in restricted custody. This means they are only allowed to have contact with their lawyers and investigators. It also means that the authorities have to be hesitant with the information provided.

Tijn was last seen on September 12, when he cycled from Daalmeer toward the Rekerhout park in Alkmaar. He was officially reported missing two days later.

The police released Tijn’s photo and asked the public to help search for him at the end of September, when his bicycle was found in a park in Alkmaar. By then, the man had already been missing for two weeks.

Tijn is 1.73 meters tall and has short, reddish hair. On the afternoon of September 11, he was wearing a Moncler jacket and Nike sneakers. He likely wore the same jacket and shoes when he disappeared the next day.
