GroenLinks-PvdA unveils €36.6 billion plan to build 100,000 homes a year
GroenLinks-PvdA unveiled a 36.6 billion euro plan to build 100,000 homes annually over the next decade, calling it the largest housing program of this century, NOS reported.
The party wants the government to take a leading role in housing development. The plan sets aside 33 billion euros for public housing, 3.6 billion euros for major construction projects, and 20 billion euros for infrastructure. A new type of housing corporation would focus on the middle class.
“We will treat public housing as a public responsibility, not just a safety net for the lowest incomes,” the party said. Roughly two-thirds of Dutch households would qualify under the new income limits.
GroenLinks-PvdA also proposes a national land bank to buy land near cities, including farmland released by retiring farmers. “By returning land to public ownership, we can accelerate construction and prevent land speculation,” the plan says.
Tackling the nitrogen crisis is also reportedly essential to the party, including reducing livestock numbers if necessary. The plan also calls for buying out intensive livestock farms near sensitive nature areas such as the Veluwe and the Peel.
