Amsterdam extends metro hours to aid Amsterdam Dance Event festivalgoers in October

The Amsterdam metro will operate longer hours during the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), Het Parool reported. ADE runs from Wednesday, October 22, through Sunday, October 26, and is expected to attract over 500,000 visitors. Night buses will continue running.

Metro lines 52 (Noord/Zuidlijn) and 54 (Amsterdam CS–Gein) will operate until 2 a.m. on Friday, October 24, and Saturday, October 25, instead of the usual 12:30 a.m. Lines 50 (Amsterdam CS–Isolatorweg) and 54 will start an hour earlier at 5 a.m. on Sunday. The extended service was planned by GVB and the city in coordination with night mayor Freek Wallagh and ADE organizers.

Wallagh praised the temporary extension. “I am pleased that we are making real progress on better night transport and that the alderman and GVB recognize its importance. Especially during large events, people should be able to get home quickly, affordably, and safely, even at night.”

Alderman Melanie van der Horst said ADE demonstrates the value of extended service. “This has tremendous value for visitors returning from parties, and also for night workers. The June festival gave us good results; now we will see how it works during ADE.”

ADE director Jan-Willem van de Ven called the expansion “a huge step forward to bring hundreds of thousands of visitors safely, affordably, and sustainably from more than 200 locations to their homes or hotels. We are glad to contribute with the city, GVB, and the night mayor.”
