Corendon expanding at German airports as more Dutch avoid pricey tickets in Netherlands
Travel company Corendon is expanding significantly at Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn airports. According to the tour operator, this expansion is in response to the growing trend of Dutch people choosing to depart for holidays from Germany because it’s cheaper.
With this expansion, Düsseldorf is even expected to become Corendon’s largest airport. The travel company says that over the past five years, the number of Dutch people flying through Düsseldorf has increased by more than 40 percent.
Starting in April next year, Corendon will offer package holidays to popular sunny destinations such as Turkey, Egypt, and Greece via these airports. Corendon expects to transport over 1.2 million passengers via the German airports next year.
According to Corendon, the German expansion complements its existing offerings in the Netherlands and Belgium. Corendon will continue to fly from Schiphol, Brussels, and, to a lesser extent, Groningen.
On Budget Day, the caretaker Dutch government announced an increase in air passenger tax. KLM CEO Marjan Rintel warned that this flight tax hike would make the Netherlands the most expensive country in the European Union across all distances.
