Reports of naked men in city center, incidents of drug use surge in Vlissingen

Extreme public drug use and nudity are escalating in Vlissingen’s city center, alarming business owners and authorities. According to Omroep Zeeland, last Monday, a man was filmed sitting fully naked on a bench in Lange Zelke, exposing himself as shoppers passed by, including a woman with a stroller. Other videos show a man walking naked through the center and a woman lying on a bench, reportedly looking like she is unaware of her surroundings.

Business owners say the problem is worse than in previous years. One business owner told Omroep Zeeland, "We are accustomed to some trouble in the city center, but this crosses a line."

Brigiet Stellaard, chair of the Vlissingen Business Association, said the incidents now occur in broad daylight, sometimes driving shoppers to hide in stores.

A member from the aid organization Avanti believes the individuals are using “alfa,” a flakka-like drug, causing psychotic symptoms. None are Avanti clients.

Stellaard told Omroep Zeeland, "The police can detain someone for a few hours, but if they refuse care, there's not much we can do." “We must ensure these people get the help they need.”
