Nestlé recalls medical apple drink over choking risk for dysphagia patients

Nestlé Health Science has issued a recall for its ThickenUP Thickened Drink apple flavor due to insufficient viscosity, which could pose a choking hazard for individuals with dysphagia or other swallowing difficulties, according to Hart van Nederland.

The recalled product is intended for medical use and is sold exclusively through medical channels. The company warned that because the apple drink is not thickened to the required consistency, it may be unsafe for patients who rely on specialized nutrition. “Nestlé advises consumers not to consume the product,” the company stated.

The recall applies specifically to ThickenUP Thickened Drink pomme/appel 114 ml with barcode 7613035692060 and batch number 250342001. The affected batch has a best-before date of February 12, 2026, and the batch number can be found on the lid, directly beneath the expiration date.

Consumers who have purchased the product are urged to stop using it immediately. The drink was designed for patients with medical conditions requiring thickened liquids to prevent aspiration or choking.
