Home store chain Riviera Maison declared bankrupt

The Dutch home store chain Riviera Mason was declared bankrupt on Tuesday, employees of two locations have confirmed. Staff at the company, which has seven stores in the Netherlands, were notified on Tuesday afternoon.

The business also has two stores in Germany and several significant sales points in other areas, including the UK, Poland, Scandinavia, and the United States, where the furniture and accessories of the brand Riviera Maison are sold. The products can be found at Bomont home decor and clothing stores in the Netherlands.

The exact reason for the bankruptcy has not been announced yet. According to an employee, the company’s situation kept worsening, and they were unable to pay the bills.

The company started as a flower shop in Amsterdam in 1948. It has a distribution center of over 21,000 square meters in Amsterdam. It has one store in the city, which is on the Gelderlandplein.

“We are devastated,” the founder and director of the company, Henk Teunissen, said to the housing website Woon360. He founded Riviera Maison in 1985. The family business, which has hundreds of workers, has suffered significant losses over the past few years.

Teunissen added that he will release a statement regarding the bankruptcy at a later stage. He is currently in talks with the bankruptcy administrator.
