Excelsior beat Jong PSV to confirm promotion back to the Eredivisie
Excelsior will be back in the Eredivisie next season. The Rotterdam team managed by Ruben den Uil beat Jong PSV 5-0 and with that, ensured that they will finish second in the second division the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. That means that they are assured of promotion behind league winners FC Volendam.
Excelsior has 74 points after the win and cannot be caught by their competitors as a result.
The Rotterdammers were relegated from the Eredivisie last season when they lost to NAC Breda in the play offs. The club were promoted via the play offs to the Eredivisie in 2022.
Casper Widell opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a shot that went low and hard into the left corner. Jacky Donkor scored the second for the Rotterdammers shortly after this. Derensili Sanches Fernandes scored from a rebound in the second half and then Widell finished the exciting evening for the Excelsior fans with two more goals.
The league champions, FC Volendam, won their last home game of the season against Roda JC with a 3-2 scoreline.
ADO Den Haag lost third place to SC Cambuur. The club from Leeuwarden won 4-3 in The Hague and now has 68 points, which is one more than ADO. FC Dordrecht lost 1-0 to Jong FC Utrecht and now has 65 points.
De Graafschap beat Telstar 2-1 and confirmed their playoff spot in the process. Telstar will battle FC Emmen, who beat VVV 2-1, for the last playoff spot.
