Sperm donor with 550 kids to be sued after trying to contact children via YouTube
Jonathan, a man who is the biological father of hundreds of children due to mass sperm donations, is being sued once again. A parent whose child was conceived through one of his sperm donations is filing a lawsuit against him because he is trying to reach children via YouTube.
He mentioned the names of the parents in the videos and said nasty things about them. He also gave children advice about how they should live. Stichting Donorkind confirmed on Wednesday after initial reporting by De Volkskrant.
The association for donor children is behind the parents in the case, which will be heard on January 28 in The Hague. The association’s chair, Ties van der Meer, said that there are more parents who have a problem with Jonathan’s actions.
Stichting Donorkind has said that the man is only allowed to contact the children via their parents or with their agreement. This is also stated in the donor contract that they agreed with him, Van der Meer added. He is bypassing the parents by doing it on YouTube and is also making negative comments about them.
"All parents should be able to get along,” said the association. The chair thinks it is healthy if the biological parent is in contact with the parents and children, but the parents must "treat each other as good family members, which is what they actually are because of that child.”
Van der Meer understands that it is harder for Jonathan to discuss contact with the children with all the parents but said that this is his own fault. He should not have donated that much in this case.
The court in The Hague ruled in 2023 that Jonathan, whose seed was used to conceive at least 550 children, had to stop donating his sperm, or he would be fined 100,000 euros per donation.
The case was initiated by Stichting Donorkind, who feared for the wellbeing of all the children who have one biological father and the chance that they end up falling in love with their half-brother or half-sister.
