A 23-year-old Dutch man died Friday after a skiing accident in unprotected terrain on the Stubaier Glacier in Tirol, Austrian authorities reported.
The skier, accompanied by his brother and a friend, ventured off the marked ski runs near Neustift in the Tirol region of Innsbruck-Land district. Around noon, he struck a rock with his skis, lost control, and crashed into a boulder.
Despite immediate assistance from the ski patrol and an emergency helicopter crew, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene, police said.
The body was recovered by helicopter and transported to the valley. Prosecutors have ordered a judicial autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death. Police emphasize there is no evidence of foul play based on current investigations.
