Suspected Dutch member of Hamas officially charged with terrorism in Germany

A man from Rotterdam has officially been charged in a German terror investigation. According to the prosecutor, Nazih R. has been a member of Hamas for years and has close ties with the military branch of the Palestinian movement.

There are three other suspects in the German investigation. All four are accused of having stockpiled weapons for Hamas in various European countries. The weapons were allegedly prepared to be used in attacks on the Israeli embassy in Berlin and the American air base in Ramstein.

R. was arrested on December 14, 2023, in Rotterdam after this was requested by the German authorities. He was extradited to Germany in February of this year.

The Rotterdammer denies all the charges. He told the Dutch court in February that he is merely an activist for the Palestinian cause. “I’m just trying to ensure that we can return to our Palestine. We are working on this with all Palestinians in Europe,” he said.

All four suspects are currently still in custody.
