Carqon recall concerns around 1,500 cargo bikes
The recall by Amersfoort-based cargo bike manufacturer Carqon affects around 1,500 cargo bikes. According to Carqon, it is not yet clear how many people have complied with the request to have their cargo bikes checked.
The recall campaign began last Thursday due to a possible safety issue. The recall concerns the Classic, Cruise, and Flatbed models. According to Carqon, intensive use can cause the handlebars to come loose or, in exceptional cases, break.
All users have been asked to stop using the cargo bike until it has been checked. According to Carqon, dealers have the parts in stock in case a repair is required. This repair can be carried out immediately if the dealer has time, the company said.
According to Carqon, the inspection involves checking the bolts and steering tube of the cargo bikes and replacing them if necessary. The company says that in some cases the cargo bikes do not meet the high quality standards and that it does not want to take any risks with the safety of those using them.
Carqon is part of the bicycle manufacturer Accell. Babboe, which is also part of Accell, had thousands of cargo bikes recalled earlier this year over safety concerns as the frames could break. Furthermore, in September, the Vogue cargo bike brand was recalled due to safety risks.
