Dutch PM Schoof calls Iranian president, condemns attack on Israel
Prime Minister Dick Schoof called Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday and, in that conversation, condemned the missile attacks by Iran and its allies on Israel, Schoof announced on X. The Prime Minister also urged Pezeshkian to stop Iran from supplying weapons to Russia.
"This conflict must be resolved through diplomacy. To achieve this, Iran will also need to make steps. I have also urged Iran to stop the material support to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine," the Dutch Prime Minister wrote on X.
Schoof is very concerned about the further escalation of violence in the Middle East and has also informed Pezeshkian of this. "The cycle of revenge and violence must be broken as soon as possible by all parties involved." According to the prime minister, a diplomatic solution to the conflict must be found as soon as possible. "Iran will also have to take steps for this."
As is customary in conversations with foreign leaders, Schoof did not mention how Pezeshkian responded.
The president of Iran heads the government but is not the supreme leader of the country. That is Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
