Protest planned at Amsterdam's Dam Square against violence in Gaza
A protest against the violence in Gaza is taking place Sunday afternoon at the Dam Square in Amsterdam, organized by the foundation Plant an Olive Tree. Actors, journalists, and singers are taking the stage, calling for an end to the violence.
Esther van der Most, director of Plant an Olive Tree, emphasized that everyone has the right to protection. "When we look at all the facts, only one conclusion can be drawn: What Palestinian civilians of all ages have been enduring for nearly a year is inhumane, and it must stop now!"
During the protest, quotes from Palestinians are being read aloud to "make it clear that these are real people." The foundation believes this aspect is often overlooked in both the news and politics.
Among the participants are comedian Najib Amhali, actresses Katja Schuurman, Isa Hoes, and Anniek Pheifer, singers Lakshmi and Jennifer Ewbank, and former diplomat Berber van der Woude.
Earlier this year, Plant an Olive Tree organized several "shoe protests" in various cities to raise awareness for Palestinian children killed in Israeli attacks, displaying thousands of children's shoes in public squares.
