Dutch man, pilot killed in Malawi small plane crash, Dutch woman survives
A 29-year-old Dutch man who lived abroad has passed away due to a crash of a small plane on Tuesday in Malawi. This was confirmed by a spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after AD had initially reported it. It had been reported earlier that a Dutch woman had survived the crash.
The plane crashed in Lake Malawi. The minister of information of the African country said on Tuesday that fishermen saved the Dutch woman. Her life is out of danger, and she is being treated in a local hospital, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is assisting the families of both Dutch people, confirmed. The surviving woman is said to be 22 years old, but a spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not confirm this.
According to African media, the small plane, a Cessna 210, which had three people on board, was traveling from Nkhotakota to Makhanga. The pilot also passed away. Local media reported that he had become unwell shortly after take off.
