NS to increase scheduled train service between Amsterdam and Almere
Dutch national railway NS has been running more trains on two routes since Tuesday. The Sprinter service on the Amsterdam Centraal - Almere Centrum route will also now be operating during off-peak hours up to 8 p.m.
Prior to that, the NS only ran the Sprinter train during rush hour from Monday to Thursday, and immediately before and after the peak periods. This was sometimes supplemented with a few other trains.
In addition, the Sprinter train on the Amersfoort Vathorst - Hoofddorp route will continue to Hoofddorp on weekdays until 10 p.m. For the last six months, the train only operated between Amersfoort Vathorst and Amsterdam Centraal in the off-peak hours. The route also includes stops at Sloterdijk, Lelylaan and Schiphol Airport.
“This fits our schedule better, and this is what the passengers want,” said a spokesperson for NS. “And now we saw the opportunity to change it.”
She added that the inclusion of extra trains has nothing to do with growth in staffing levels. The NS was forced to scrap trains in the last few years due to a lack of staff.
