The Netherlands will face Turkey in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals

The Netherlands will face Turkey in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals after the Turkish side beat Austria 2-1 on Tuesday night. Two goals from center-back Merih Demiral ensured that Turkey was victorious in Leipzig. They face the Netherlands on Saturday night in Berlin.

Oranje had beaten Romania 3-0 earlier in the day to book their place in the quarter-finals in convincing fashion. Two goals from Donyell Malen and one goal from Cody Gakpo were enough to set up the tie.

Turkey finished second in the group stage behind Portugal. Vincenzo Montella’s side won two out of three games, beating Georgia and the Czech Republic.

Orkun Kokcu, a former Feyenoord midfielder who was born in Haarlem, will be suspended for the match against Oranje due to two yellow cards. Ferdi Kadiouglu, who was born in Arnhem, will be available to play against his country of birth.

The last time these two sides met was in September 2021, and the Netherlands won 6-1. However, Turkey was unbeaten in the last two matches between the two sides before that, which resulted in the Netherlands failing to qualify for the European Championships of 2016.

The match will be played on Saturday at 9 p.m. at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. The winner will face either England or Switzerland in the semi-final.

Portugal, France, Switzerland, England, Spain, and Germany are the other remaining quarter-finalists in the competition.
