More power generation capacity through the installation of solar panels
The production capacity for generating electricity by installing new solar cells increased further last year. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), this so-called installed capacity rose by 22% compared to the previous year to 23.9 gigawatts, an increase of 4.3 gigawatts.
Compared to 2013, the installed capacity of solar panels was almost 40 times higher. As weather conditions are not always ideal for solar panels due to rainfall and heavy cloud cover, the actual power generated by solar panels is often below their capacity.
According to CBS, solar panels on homes accounted for 42 percent of electricity, with solar panels on businesses accounting for the rest. CBS states that solar panels generated almost 17 percent of the total electricity production in the Netherlands last year, which is almost equal to the total electricity consumption of all households in our country.
According to CBS, Zwijndrecht had the largest capacity of solar panels per square kilometer, more than 5 megawatts.
