Stabbing leaves 28-year-old man dead on Rotterdam street
A stabbing on a public square in Rotterdam left a 28-year-old man dead on Sunday morning. The victim, a resident of the city, was pronounced dead on the Marconiplein near the metro stop there. No arrests were announced in the immediate aftermath.
Emergency services workers were sent to the scene just before 6 a.m. A trauma team was also sent to the Delfshaven neighborhood by helicopter.
The seriously-injured victim was found close to the square, police said. First responders attempted to revive the man, but their efforts were in vain.
"The cause of the stabbing incident, and the responsible party, is under investigation," police said. "The precise circumstances are under investigation. Police are looking for witnesses."
Forensic investigators arrived on scene to secure trace evidence, and the area was cordoned off. The incident led to the closure of the area next to the Marconiplein metro stop.
Police officers also interviewed people on the street, but added that they were also looking for anyone with information and camera footage from the area.
