KLM staff also allowed to wear sneakers during work from May
KLM employees will soon be allowed to wear sneakers under their outfits during work. Most female employees still wear heels, but they will also be allowed to choose sporting shoes from May 6. A spokesperson confirmed this after a report from Luchtvaartnieuws. The airline said that this will be more comfortable while working and will contribute to the well-being of the staff.
KLM said it is responding to the demand for more comfortable work shoes. “Some colleagues who wear pumps would like an alternative,” said KLM. “Wearing sneakers under a uniform is becoming increasingly common at airlines and suits the current times.”
A spokesperson for the airline shared that stewardesses already have a choice when it comes to the height of their heels and are advised to wear low heels on board an aircraft. An exception is made for people with foot complaints or other complaints.
Employees are not allowed to wear any type of sneakers. They are only permitted to wear sneakers under pants, and the color of the uniform determines which color sneakers they are allowed to wear with it.
The sneakers must be made from smooth (artificial) leather and have a white sole. KLM also developed its own shoe in collaboration with the Dutch clothing brand Filling Pieces.
