Why riding a motorcycle is so much fun

For most people, driving a car is the solution to get from A to B. It's simple and serves the purpose. Yet you do not feel as connected with the road and your speed when you are in a car. Especially if you've been driving on highways for a long time, a road outside the built-up area can feel like time standing still.

Until you return to your home, and strap a motor helmet on your head, (“motorhelmen in Dutch) and it reminds you just how much fun motorcycling really is. When you get on the bike you suddenly feel how fast the kilometers are whipping past your ears. Most people get a kick out of riding a motorcycle. In this blog you can read why motorcycling is so much fun for many people and what you should take into account as a motorcyclist.

Riding a motorcycle equals freedom

Most people cite the freedom of motorcycling as the first benefit. You can also imagine that motorcycling gets you out in the open when you're traveling kilometer after kilometer, certainly compared to spending that time in a cookie tin on wheels. You are much more aware of the environment, nature and also the speed at which you drive: 80 kilometers per hour really feels like 80 kilometers per hour. You feel young and fresh the moment you sit on the bike.

Bypassing traffic

The Netherlands is nowadays a country where most people sometimes get stuck in traffic. It is sometimes deadlocked, especially around working hours. There is nothing more annoying than seeing that there is a traffic jam at your business park after a long 8-hour working day, and where you may have to spend an extra 30 minutes behind the wheel. This is not a view one enjoys: sitting still on an ugly industrial estate when you have no choice but to stare at the dull surroundings. The advantage of the motorcycle is that you can pass the cars and then get back home quickly.

Costs

The total petrol price for a motorcycle is often much lower than that of a car. Of course there are also engines that slurp a lot of petrol, but if you pay close attention to which brand you buy, you will be able to drive around in a very economical way. This is so nice in a time when the price of petrol rockets up and down.

What should you pay attention to when you ride a motorcycle?

However, riding a motorcycle also comes with responsibility. You must therefore be very aware of your surroundings. Although you can obey the traffic rules well, as a motorcycle driver you are much more vulnerable than, for example, a car. So pay close attention to yourself by using your mirrors and be sharp when it comes to mistakes made by others. In addition, it is very important that you take the right safety measures before you hit the road.

Consider, for example, wearing a motorcycle suit that protects you and wearing a helmet. It is important to remember that you must have these basics on in any weather condition. You could also choose to buy a striking suit, so that other vehicles notice you.
