Dutch PM wishes Boris Johnson speedy recovery; In ICU with coronavirus

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was admitted to ICU with the coronavirus on Monday, after being hospitalized on Sunday. Prime Minister Mark Rutte wished him strength and a speedy recovery on Twitter.

"On behalf of the Dutch government, I wish Boris Johnson, his family and the British people much strength and luck in this difficult time. I hope to soon be able to him in good health," the Dutch Prime Minister tweeted.

The 55-year-old Johnson was admitted to the St. Thomas' Hospital in London on Sunday evening, where he underwent some tests on his doctor's advice, NU.nl reports. His condition deteriorated during the course of Monday. He had trouble breathing, according to the newspaper.

Johnson's current condition is unclear, but according to 10 Downing Street, he is conscious. He asked Foreign Affairs Minister Dominic Raab to cover his position in the cabinet for the time being. "The Prime Minister is in safe hands," Raab said, emphasizing that Johnson's plans to fight the coronavirus will continue.
