Law Changes 2020: Housing and Living Environment

The Dutch government is implementing a large number of rules, regulations, and law changes at the stroke of midnight on January 1. Below is a summary of changes made in the category Housing and Living Environment, known to the public at the time of publication:

For people with an income above 68,507 euros, the mortgage interest deduction is reducing from 49 percent to 46 percent next year. This change does not affect the deductible items of people with incomes below 68,507 euros. More information on this deduction can be found here.

Several different changes to the calculation of housing allowance will be phased-in beginning in January. he gradual phasing-out of housing allowance. The result should be that about 115 thousand more families living in rental homes should have access to some level of rent relief. The amounts collected next year by current housing benefit recipients will change if their income changes. The Tax Office's calculator fo housing allowance may be found here.
