Police close A12 highway as tractors head to Den Haag

Public works department Rijkswaterstaat closed the A12 highway from Utrecht to Den Haag at Nootdorp at the request of the police. The highway is overcrowded with farmers on tractors heading towards The Hague for a demonstration. Rijkswaterstaat advises motorists to avoid the highways around The Hague region.

Access roads to The Hague, such as the A4 and A44, are also backed up due to a large number of farmers. Farmers are being guided from the A12 to the parking lot of the Cars Jeans Stadium, the police said on Twitter. They can park their tractors there and will then be taken to the demonstration on Koekamp by bus.

The municipality made the Malieveld available for tractor parking, but the field is full, the municipality of Den Haag said on Twitter. All tractors still coming to the demonstration must therefore heed police instructions and head to the Cars Jeans Stadium.

Other traffic is being detoured from off-ramp 5 via Donau, the police said.
