"He fought to stay with us", says son of man burned to death in Breda
The memorial for 49-year-old Breda man Ger van Zundert will be held on Saturday. His family invites everyone who wants to say goodbye to attend the ceremony on Saturday afternoon. "He did not want to let go of lie and fought to stay with us", reads the invite, posted on Facebook by his son. "Totally unexpected and way too early, my friend and father."
Van Zundert died in hospital on Tuesday morning after he was attacked in a garage on Sparrenweg on Monday night. Before he died, he told the police that he was tied up and set on fire by multiple men. The police believe Van Zudert was killed in a targeted attack, likely related to a business conflict.
The police arrested 51-year-old Janie H. for the murder. He turned himself in on Tuesday and will be arraigned on Friday. Two other suspects are still at large.
The memorial service will be held in the Aula Brabant of the Zuylen Crematorium in Breda.
On Wednesday hundreds of people gathered in the Tuinzigt neighborhood to commemorate Van Zundert. Breda mayor Paul Depla also attended. "Impressive memorial. It's good to see how Tuinzigt supports each other in difficult days', the mayor said on Twitter.
