Child, father find hand grenade in Amsterdam

A father and his child found an old grenade in Amsterdam while taking a walk on Sunday evening. The Ministry of Defense's explosive disposal department removed the grenade and safely detonated it, AT5 reports.

The grenade was found in the water on Catharina Boudewijnshof in Guezenveld. The father immediately called the police, who called in the explosive experts. They rendered the grenade harmless at the scene and then detonated it in the port area.

The police emphasized that this was an old war time grenade and the explosive was therefore not linked to a series of hand grenades and explosives left in the city over the past months.
