PostNL asks head office employees to deliver post

PostNL asked employees of its head office to help deliver post this month, because the company is dealing with a shortage in postmen. In total some 500 head office workers were asked to spend one day delivering post in September, PostNL confirmed to ANP.

The head office workers will deliver post in areas that would otherwise face late deliveries due to holes in the roster. This exceptional measure is only necessary for the month of September, a spokesperson for PostNL said to the news wire. This month many employees are on vacation. And at the same time the company is dealing with much more post than in the summer months.

The staff shortage is a problem in around 300 of the 100 thousand so-called delivery districts, especially in Gooi, Utrecht and Noord-Limburg.

The spokesperson added that PostNL has to work hard to recruit enough mail deliverers for the coming months, despite the shrinking postal market. "We still deliver around 8 million letters a day, so there's a lot. We are dealing with a tight labor market, that is sector wide."

PostNL currently employs around 18,400 mail deliverers.
