Festive opening planned for Amsterdam's Noord-Zuid subway line
After years of construction, Amsterdam's Noord-Zuid subway line is finally opening on Saturday. The organization planned a whole range of activities to introduce Amsterdam residents to the new line in a festive way, AT5 reports.
The architects involved in building the new stations will give guided tours at stations Noord, CS, Rokin and De Pijp. Visitors can get a look behind the scenes of the design process and the choices made by the architects, as well as information on materials and technical gadgets used in the stations. Those interested in such a tour can register here.
There will also be guided art tours at each station along the Noord-Zuid line. Tour guides from organizer DestinationArt will tell visitors about the striking artworks at the stations, but also about art in the area. The art tours start at 2:15 p.m., 3:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.
Dancers, including Femke Luycx, will perform at Noorderpark station at 1:15 p.m. There will be opera performances at Noord station at 3:45 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. Singer Mirjam van Dam and her guitarist Wolf Martin will perform at De Pijp station from 4:30 pm. to 5:00 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. And magician Jeffrey Wijhuizen will entertain with magic shows at De Pijp station from 2:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and at Europaplein station from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
There will also be a station-crawl chess tournament at stations Noord, Noorderpark, CS, Rokin, Vijvelgrachtt and Europaplein in the afternoon. Based on a pub-crawl tournament, participants will go from station to station, where they will take part in a chess tournament. The tournament will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and will start in cafe Hermes. Those who want to participate can register here.
