Dutch PM Rutte to visit Trump next month
Prime Minister Mark Rutte will pay a visit to United States president Donald Trump early next month at the invitation of the White House, sources told the Telegraaf.
After some time looking for a gap in the agenda for Rutte and Trump to meet, the meeting was tentatively scheduled for July 2nd, according to the newspaper. Rutte and Trump have spoken before, over the telephone and in the margins of a NATO summit in Hamburg, but this will be their first official meeting.
What will be discussed is not yet clear. The Netherlands' spending on Defense is a likely topic, according to the newspaper. The United States wants the Netherlands to invest more in defense to achieve the NATO standard of 2 percent of GDP. Flight MH17 may also be discussed. The Netherlands is constantly working on international support to track down and prosecute those responsible for downing the Malaysia Airlines flight.
Government information service Rijksvoorlichtingsdienst could not confirm the meeting date of July 2nd to the Telegraaf.
