Europe's largest bird spotted in Zeeland

A bearded vulture was spotted in Oostkapelle and Dishoek over the weekend. The bearded vulture is Europe's largest bird with a wingspan of almost 3 meters, and usually does not occur in the Netherlands, NOS reports.

"You expect a bearded vulture in the Alps or the Pyrenees, but not here", bird photographer Marcel Klootwijk said to Omroep Zeeland. "What an amazing bird."

The animal is not ringed, which indicates that it is a wild vulture and not one that escaped from a zoo or bird park. It was last seen in Oostkapelle on Sunday, where it likely spent the night due to the rainy weather. Klootwijk therefore expects that it will be seen again in the Netherlands on Monday.
