Budget airline Norwegian Air to fly from Amsterdam to New York for $199 next year

Budget airline Norwegian Air will be offering flights between Schiphol in Amsterdam and John F. Kennedy in New York four times a week from May next year, the airline announced in a press release. Ticket prices on this route will start at $199, according to the airline.

This is the first time that Norwegian Air is offering flights from Schiphol to the United States, according to ANP. This new destination will be competition for Air France-KLM's transatlantic flights.

In addition to the new Amsterdam to New York route, Norwegian Air will also offer new routes to the U.S from Madrid and Milan next year.

Budget airlines are increasingly taking on longer routes from Schiphol airport. In September KLM CEO Pieter Elbers complained about the space Schiphol gives to these cheaper airlines, saying that they make the airport less well connected.
