Failed ATM bombing triggers evacuation in Noord-Holland town

The police evacuated eight homes in the Noord-Holland town of Kudelstaart early on Thursday morning after a failed ATM bombing left explosives on the street.

Unidentified perpetrators tried to blow open an ATM on Einsteinstraat around 5:00 a.m. on Thursday morning. According to Het Parool, a large amount of damage was done before the perpetrators fled in a car. Whether they managed to steal anything, is unclear.

Explosives were left lying on the street. As a precaution, the police evacuated the surrounding homes and closed down the area. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit was called in. Using a robot, the team examined the explosives and tried to make sure they don't detonate.

Just before 8:00 a.m. the police said on Twitter that the EOD succeeded in making the explosives safe for transport and that the area will be released as soon as possible. The explosives will be disposed of somewhere else.
