A scooter rider was killed after a frontal collision with a police car on Thursday night. The accident happened around 8:30 p.m.on Dijkweg in Heukelom. The victim is a 40-year-old man from Berkel Enschot, the police said in a statement.

Police officers noticed the man riding on a scooter without license plates in Tilburg earlier on Thursday night. They signaled him to stop, but he ignored this and kept going. The police officers gave chase.

In an effort to lose the following cops, the scooter rider took a sudden turn onto Dijkweg and crashed right into a backup police car coming to join the chase. The man sustained such serious injuries that responding emergency services could do nothing for him. He died at the scene .

Traffic accident analysts from the National Unit are conducting an independent investigation into the accident.
