Sinkhole swallows Apeldoorn road after water main break
A water main break in Apeldoorn on Friday morning caused a massive sinkhole on Edisonlaan, where it crosses with Koninginnelaan. The road will be closed for at least the weekend, De Stentor reports.
Water company Vitens received the first reports of the break around 5:00 a.m. and immediately sent technicians to the site. Contractor BAM is also on site, already working on road repairs. "That continues throughout the weekend, so it is expected that the road will be back in use Monday morning", a Vitens spokesperson said to the newspaper.
While the break was a big one, it luckily did not happen on the main waterline. "Because otherwise the whole neighborhood would be without water. And that's not the case. We were able to manage a redirection so that everyone in the area still has water."
Vitens is investigating what caused the break.
