Groupon deal for helicopter flights over Amsterdam angers Labour party

Discount website Groupon recently started offering helicopter flights over Amsterdam by company Heliams.com. This week there is a significant discount on the offer, causing great annoyance in the PvdA faction in Amsterdam, Het Parool reports.

Heiliams.com offers a 20 minute flight over Amsterdam every Saturday for 299 euros. This offer is currently on Groupon at a discounted rate of 149 euros.

The PvdA faction in Amsterdam called this new tourist attraction undesirable. "Tourist flights above the city is a strange addition to the arsenal of booze tours and beer bikes", city council member Dennis Boutkan said to the newspaper. "I think the founders of this company do not realize that it will cause noise and stench pollution." The party submitted council questions on the matter last week. "The company is now launching a comprehensive visibility campaign, something has to be done about that as soon as possible." according to Boutkan.

Alderman Kasja Ollongren is investigating the helicopter flights over the city. She added the flights to an ongoing investigation into desirable and undesirable tourism in the Dutch capital, according Het Parool.
