Netherlands opening international center in fight against climate change
On Monday State Secretary Sharon Dijksma of Infrastructure and Environment is giving the go ahead for the establishment of the Global Center of Excellence on Climate change. The center will be based in the Netherlands and is being established by the Netherlands, Japan and the United Nations environmental organization UNEP, NU.nl reports.
The Center is not aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but rather to combine all the knowledge about how to deal with climate change, according to the newspaper. It will serve as an advise agency for countries on how to better deal with climate change.
"All over the world people are hit hard by global warming. If we do not deal with climate change, the risk of natural disasters, social and economic setbacks and political tensions increases", Dijksma said. "The Netherlands is good at bringing together knowledge and expertise in the area of climate adaption. The knowledge center will play an important role in this."
