Attempted baby snatcher on the run in Arnhem

The police are still looking for a man who tried to kidnap a baby in Arnhem on Wednesday. According to the police, the man assaulted the baby's mother in her home on Johan de Wittlaan and then took off with the child.

When the police arrived at the scene, the baby was back at the home and the attempted kidnapper had run off.

According to the mother, the kidnapper is the baby's father. Newspaper AD managed to talk to her from a safe house. She says that the man had the 3 month old boy with him for about an hour and a half before returning him.

A police spokesperson would not confirm or deny this to the newspaper. But the spokesperson did say that the baby was inexplicably returned to the home shortly after the abduction. He was found safe and sound inside his home. The child was taken to his mother, who was given shelter elsewhere to recover from the shock. Mother and child are both doing well, according to the spokesperson.

The police are looking for the kidnapper, who is facing charges of illegally taking the child from the custody of his mother.
