Dutch skaters enjoy natural ice for first time in 2016

About 50 Dutch skating enthusiast enjoyed skating on natural ice outdoors iin De Lier on Tuesday morning. Skate club Hard gaat-ie produced a thin layer of ice using a combination of their sprinkling system and the freezing cold, NU.nl reports.

Skaters can enjoy the natural ice for as long as its there, though president of Hard gaat-ie Wim van der Berg is hesitant to say that it will last the entire day. "We are skating here now. The ice is good now. But it's stressful, because the sun is coming through", he said to the newspaper. Skating enthusiasts can check the club's website to see the status of the ice.

Last night was the coldest autumn night in the Netherlands since 1998, with temperatures dropping to -.6.6 degrees in De Bilt. Tonight is expected to drop below freezing again, but the rest of the week wil be milder.
