Pechtold, three women on top of D66 candidate list

The top four positions of the D66's draft list of candidates are made up of current party leader Alexander Pechtold and three women. Number two on the list is current parliamentarian Stientje van Veldhoven, number three is Hague alderman Ingrid van Engelshoven and number four is parliamentarian Pia Dijkstra, Pechtold announced on Goedemorgen Nederland on Monday morning.

The complete draft list of candidates will be released later on Monday.

According to Pechtold, the list consists of a good mix of men and women with different backgrounds and from different regions. He hopes that the party members approve the list. D66 members play a big part in determining the final list of parliamentarians for the elections in March 2017, according to NOS.

Number two on the list, Van Veldhoven, also spoke to WNL, the broadcaster behind Goedermorgen Nederland. She hopes that women will show more ambition in the future. According to her, women currently often say no when offered a high position. "If you get the chance now, say yes. We really need more women with ambition."
