Hague square to honour murdered politician Els Borst

The municipality of The Hague is naming the new square in front of the Haga Hospital after murdered D66 politician Els Borst. Her family and Hague alderman Boudewijn Revis will officially reveal the street sign - which will read Els Borst-Eilersplein - on Friday, ANP reports. Borst was Minister Public Health between 1994 and 2002 and Deputy Prime Minister in the second purple cabinet. Under her leadership, a law was implemented that made euthanasia, under strict conditions, legal in the Netherlands. Els Borst was found murdered in her home in Bilthoven in February 2014. She was 81-years-old. Her murderer, Bart van U., was recently sentenced to institutionalized psychiatric treatment for her murder. He confessed to killing Borst over the Euthanasia Law she helped implement. The Public Prosecutor appealed against this sentence, asking that prison time be added.
