Labour MP resigns for job with Rotterdam school; replaced by fmr Amsterdam councilor
PvdA parliamentarian Tanja Jadnanansing is leaving the Tweede Kamer - the lower house of Dutch parliament - for a job at the Albeda College in Rotterdam, the party announced on Monday. She will be replaced by former Amsterdam municipal councilor Amma Asante, Het Parool reports.
Jadnanansing previously announced her intentions not to return to parliament after the March 2017 elections. She was the education specialist for the PvdA in the Tweede Kamer since 2010. At the Rotterdam school Jadnanansing will work as the program manager for Strategy and External Relations.
Assante, 44, was municipal councilor in Amsterdam between 1998 and 2006. She is ecstatic to be given a chance to represent the people in the Tweede Kamer, even though it comes at the end of the parliament's term. "Yes! It was always at the back of my mind", she said to Het Parool after she got the call on Monday. "I always thought: it could still happen, even if it is only theoretically. And then they suddenly called! Be a representative of the people, it is the best that there is!"
She hopes to be able to do her part in The Hague, but provisionally only singed up until the elections on March 15th, 2017. She wants to see how it goes before deciding whether she wants to continue after the elections.
